A special background plant and its deep red colour creates a magnificent contrast with most other plants. Of all the Alternanthera species the Cardinalis has the broadest leaves. It will turn bright red with 100% artificial light, while it almost becomes green with 100% daylight! In order to contain the bright red colour in the water you will have to give it some extra iron, for instance by pushing a nutrition grain into the soil.
